40 miles in 24 hours.
Hey gang, what’s shakin’? Not much around here — I just woke up for a 2-hour nap and ate some Arctic Zero ice cream.
Ice cream at 10 a.m., you ask? Yes. Ice cream at 10 a.m.
In full disclosure, this is fat-free, sugar-free, gluten-free, lactose-free, ice cream that only costs you 150 calories per pint. You can read more about it here. I’ve had the chocolate peanut butter from Kroger, but Walmart, unfortunately, only stocks mint chocolate chip and cookies and cream (and supposedly, maple vanilla, though I haven’t seen it yet…). Anyways, I dug into 1/2 a pint of it when I got up from my nap.
Because I ran 40 miles this weekend.
I was just TRYING to run 2 days of back to back 20-milers, but things didn’t quite work out that way…
I started running late yesterday — probably around 7:15 – 7:20 a.m. Today, I started CRAZY early (read: 4:00 a.m.). So the way that it all worked out, I actually ran the 40 in 24 hours.
What the heck am I thinking?
I have abandoned all sense and sanity, and thoughts of training.
Well, I guess I am just trying to prove to myself that I am capable of doing anything that I set my mind to. I have been living with this CONSTANT fear lately that I peaked at the Loonie’s Midnight Marathon and that I’m slowly regressing. Everyone else around me is improving left and right, and here I am botching my speed work and stumbling through long runs.
For now, I am going to chalk it up to a few busy/exhausting weeks. We’ll see what happens when I recover from this weekend. I’m certainly not doing any strength training on top of my running anymore, so my friends all have me beat there. But, I made the choice to take a step back from additional training when I quit my coach, so I have to remind myself of my reasons for doing so.
Anyways. Today’s run was 20 miles at 8:00mm pace and yesterday were 20 miles at 8:11mm pace. Not exactly slow, but not the blistering 7:38mm pace that Mike and Angie ran today! Shew. Typically I’m capable of that. Just not today. Or yesterday, apparently. Ah well. C’est la vie.
Ok well, I have more stuff to write catch-up blogs about, but now I have to get ready for work. The prospect of spending another 7 hours on my feet today is less than thrilling, but a girl’s gotta do what a girl gotta do!
In any case, I wish this was my life today:
