Long run Saturday and a Smoking Coconut.

By admin

HAPPY THREE-DAY WEEKEND! It’s been such a great one so far!

This morning I ran my 19-mile long run and the first 10 of it with a big group! The weather was beautiful today, but since we started at 6:00 a.m., we didn’t really get to reap the benefits of the heat. However, the sun was amazing. I am hopeful for an early break in the winter weather!

Anyways, I ran 10.3 miles with Mike, Angie, Cerina, Lorie, and Jeremiah. Then, Jeremiah and I ran another 3.2 miles outside before we succumbed to the chill and headed to Planet Fitness for the final miles.

Jeremiah is on this crazy awesome running streak. He ran 18 miles today to get to 100 miles in the past 8 days <– crazy. That gives him 180 miles this year I think, which is like, over 10 miles a day on average. Something I’ve aspired to but never achieved. Anyways, on his way to PF, he stopped to get both of us some coffee, and he brought me some apple slices for fuel. He’s a good friend. I swear the people at PF think I’m out of my mind though. I basically just set up camp on a treadmill and plug away until I hit my mileage. Today, I had my iPhone, a pack of gum, $10, a cup of coffee, a bag of apples, life water, and my keys in front of mine. You gotta do what you gotta do on the treadmill, amiright?!

Anyways, I ran the last 5.5 on the treadmill. Finished the whole 19 in like, 2:35:11 for an 8:11mm pace. Not too shabby! This was my 14th day straight of running, so I really can’t complain about that! I still don’t feel like I need a rest day, so we’ll just keep plugging along.

OK so, my latest obsession is essential oils. I first learned about the benefits of certain essential oils on Lauryn’s blog, when she talked about Peppermint Oil. Peppermint Oil has a TON of benefits when used aromatically, internally and topically, but here’s why I’m obsessed:

FIRST AND FOREMOST – digestive properties. Anyone who knows me knows that my stomach is chronically irritated. They have a medical term for this that starts with an I and ends with an S but I feel like leaving that in-between letter out maintains some sort of dignity. This morning, I put 2 drops (accidentally, I was only supposed to put one) in my smoothie and my tummy felt better like, INSTANTLY. That’s a win in my book.

WEIGHT LOSS – so, from what I hear, peppermint oil also has satiety properties, which can curb cravings that occur at inopportune times (like, in my case, 2 seconds after I eat a huge meal… Or 2 seconds BEFORE I eat a huge meal….) which can help control your appetite and facilitate weight loss, if you’re into that sort of thing.

AROMATHERAPY – Put a couple of drops of peppermint oil on your wrists for a cool and minty scent all day. Peppermint oil used as aromatherapy has been known to help with nausea, and also to facilitate a calming feel.

I mean, there are a million other benefits from peppermint oil, but let’s leave it at my obsessions for now.

My friend Elisa is extremely knowledgeable about all sorts of essential oils and I can’t wait to pick her brain about some of the other individual oils and blends that I can implement into my everyday life!

Speaking of aromatherapy though — in case you hadn’t heard, this week was CRAZY for me. It really made me feel like I need to start implementing some basic stress relief practices into my life… INCLUDING, aromatherapy.

My current bedside table.

Oils and lotions. It’s like a mini-spa. LOVE.

I’ve ALSO gone one step beyond and seriously splurged on the aromatherapy experience…

This, my friends, is an essential oil diffuser. It also acts as a humidifier, which I feel is a definite plus in anyone’s life. Currently, I’m a diffusing clove. I’m not sure what that’s supposed to do for me, but I love the scent.

Steven has quite an opinion about the new addition to the bedroom.

S: “What the hell is that?”

K: “It’s for aromatherapy… and it also acts as a humidifier.”

S: *Eyebrow raise*

S: “We have a smoking coconut…”

S: “It’s a smoking coconut.”

S: “………….. that’s a really fancy way to say ‘smoking coconut’………..”

And that, my friends, is my life right now.

Have a great night!
